The 3–5 metre clear zone being cut around the Sanctuary perimeter.

 

The clear zone ensures trees and branches are far enough away from the fence to prevent cats and other predators from jumping over it.

500m of fencing was used to enclose the 1.5ha Sanctuary.

DCR worker Matt Sephton helps the Xcluder team apply the stainless steel mesh.

 

The fence uses a marine grade, welded stainless steel mesh, which is the most “stable” mesh currently available.

“Mesh skirts” are visible extending below the fence line. These are covered with earth to prevent burrowing predators entering the Sanctuary.
